Both authors have a doctorate degree and are employed at the University of Miami School of Nursing, which gives them an adequate authority in this research.

The intended audience is women, who suffer from postpartum depression, and health care providers, like obstetricians or midwives, who work with those women and who should advise them to seek professional help. The topic of postpartum depression is still unknown to a certain degree and many women stay untreated. New mothers attribute symptoms like intense feelings of inadequacy, social withdrawal, fatigue, irritability, etc. to the new situation of being a mother. Telecare, which is psychotherapy over the phone, was undertaken with twenty mothers over a ten-week period. The therapy had three parts: cognitive-behavioral therapy, relaxation techniques, and problem-solving strategies. The mothers were thought deep breathing, muscle relaxation, and guided imagery. As a result all subjects reported positive outcomes due to the effectiveness of the treatment.
